Sasha Matsumoto
Sasha has been on stage for as long as she can remember. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts majoring in Contemporary Dance at Unitec. Trained in contemporary, jazz, ballet and tap, she has also studied musical theatre as a Junior Associate for New Zealand Performing Arts (2018). She completed and achieved NCEA Dance Scholarship in her final year of high school (2018).
Sasha has performed as a dancer in annual school and dance academy showcases. Last year she danced in the Body Art Awards. In 2017, she danced at Spark Arena with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as part of the Da Bangg tour. She has also been a regular back up dancer for Gospel artist, Amat’s Duru.
Sasha’s love for musical theatre began at the age of 5, when she was cast in a Playhouse Theatre production of Peter Pan. She has since performed in their annual youth productions, most recently playing Lumiere in Disney’s Beauty & the Beast Jr. (2018). Now at 18 years old, she has recently choreographed a production of Bugsy Malone with Playhouse Theatre. Some other musicals she has been involved in include Tom’s Marvellous Imagination (2017, Southern Stars Charitable Trust), Beauty & the Beast (2017 KISS) and various Avondale College productions including Catch Me if You Can (2018). She is currently in rehearsals for Theatre Co’s We Will Rock You.
Screen experience includes dancing in music videos for Valkyrie (Lost Soul), Amara Duru (Winner, Keep On Moving), Julia Turner (Running), Royce Creamer (solo dancer in Daffodils) and Arma Del Amor (featured dancer in The Usurper).
