Between the Lines

Sunday 20th November
Henderson Methodist Church
3 Swanson Road, Henderson, Auckland
4:00 pm

Join the Waitakere Voices as they explore music that is heard as something more than its surface suggests.

This concert poses a simple question: Between the lines of music and interpretation, what happens to music once it leaves the composer’s hands?

Some songs say exactly what they mean. Others become something far bigger, or stranger, than their creators ever intended.

Songs become symbols of protest or identity, and audiences hear messages that may or may not have been intended.

This programme explores music whose meaning has been shaped, reshaped, projected onto, or transformed by listeners, culture, history, and context.

Mozart, Fauré, Sibelius, Verdi, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Billie Eilish, Joy Oladokun, and traditional folk music pieces.
